For once, the Group abandoned a meeting format and took the opportunity of a bus tour around the Olympic site, with expert commentary on the way, to see how the site is developing. They had a chance to view the individual buildings taking shape – the Stadium, the Aquatic Centre, the press building and others – look at the sporting tracks, bridges and waterways that are being developed, learn more about employment and environmental policies and relationships with neighbouring communities, and hear about plans for managing large numbers when the Games are under way.
30 members of the Group and other London Funders participants took up this opportunity, kindly organised for us by Paul Bower of London Civic Forum.
June 2009
Scott Rosser from the Community Transport Association talked about accessibility issues in relation to the Olympic Games – the environmental factors involved in moving large numbers of people to and from the many Games Sites, and the specifics of assisting disabled sportspeople and spectators to reach the venues.
